WHAT IS A MALA: A mala means 'heavenly garland' and is used for reflection, yoga practice, cleansing of the chakras or as part of your bohemian style.

A mala has many names and is also referred to as yoga beads, meditation beads, prayer beads, mala mala, yoga necklace, yoga jewelry, rosary and mala beads.

TO MEDITATE WITH YOUR MALA (JAPA MEDITATION): Chanting is where we repeat a word, sentence or more to ourselves over and over again. Chanting can be done anywhere and throughout the course of a day, standing, seated, walking, whatever. When we chant it helps us to deflect other thoughts and we can concentrate almost entirely on our chanting. Chants can be in Sanskrit or in English. You can chant whatever you like. This is where your mala beads come into use. If you are sitting while chanting you would recite the chant 108 times to complete a full cycle. It is said that when one has finished the cycle of 108 repetitions that they will have reached a state of enlightenment.

CHERRY QUARTZ: These pretty semi-transparent pink beads show internal clouds, swirls and needles of a darker pink hue. Not actually a gemstone at all, but a specially processed glass with similar optical properties to quartz. Any properties believed to be associated with Cherry Quartz are related to its colour which can lift energy and spirits and add passion to everything one does.

WHITE JADE: Is said to encourage focus and increase concentration. It is believed to improve one's bond with their set intentions and aids in filtering out unwanted distractions.

Jade rock has been used for jewelry, statues and a variety of other items since around 4000 BC. It was actually used to make axe heads, knives and weapons in the ancient British Isles. The jade was easy to polish and keep sharp. Legend says, early humans had no weapons to protect themselves from wild animals. The Storm God created axes with jade taken from a rainbow and left them lying on the ground for humans to find and use for protection.

SACRED RUDRAKSHA SEEDS: Rudraksha is formed by the combination of two words ‘Rudra’ & ‘Aksha’ that refers to the tears that rolled down eyes of great Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva went into deep meditation for the purpose of welfare of all the living beings. After his several years of deep contemplation when he opened his eyes, he saw all the pain & suffering everyone’s facing around, looking at the same tears rolled down his eyes, those tear drops when fell on the ground turned into trees later down the years which acquired blue coloured fruits whose coating when removed the inside layer found was the holy seed – The Rudraksha. Rudraksha thus are sacred beads with very high spiritual and medicinal values. Rudraksha trees are commonly found in the areas between the Foothills of Himalayas & Ganges plains and in Indonesia. The divine qualities of this sacred holy bead were first found in ancient scriptures of Hindus. They are popular traditional healing beads extensively used to treat a several diseases and also purify the wearer (spiritually as well as mentally). They bless one with peace of mind; protect against evil doers and spirits; and bless with peace and prosperity.

STERLING SILVER: Sterling silver is one of the world’s most popular precious metals. Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of one or more other metals. Copper is the most common metal added to silver to create the sterling alloy. The purpose of the alloy is to harden and strengthen the silver. Pure silver, which is 99.9%, is much softer than sterling silver and is not practical to wear as everyday jewelry.

Silver has numerous health properties that have been used across time and culture. It is a powerful antimicrobial agent that aids in cold and flu prevention, wound healing, and skin care. Silver also helps with internal heat regulation and circulation. When applied in the right quantity and manner, silver also provides protection against harmful electromagnetic radiation from cellphones and other electronics.
